BC Place: They all fall down.

The roof at BC place stadium has collapsed under the weight of rain and snow. Here’s a story in the Province about the roof collapse. And here’s the story in the national post. From the province story:

About three weeks ago, Graham Ramsay, BC place’s business development director said that contrary to some reports in The Province, the Teflon roof did not need to be replaced, as a review conducted by its builder shows it is structurally sound

Its a cheap shot, but this comment by jojuchst over at Chipmans blog made me laugh:

Wonder if RE will collapse like BC Place did this afternoon?? They say hot air is supposed to be pumped in to melt the snow so w/o hot air pumping it up it could collapse… BC Place that is.

You don't have to go SATV, I deleted your comment because you copied and pasted it from the previous story. Comments were getting far off-topic with a lot of anonymous insults going back and forth. Please don't copy and paste a comment you just left on a previous story, but you're welcome to keep posting with your user account. The place just wouldn't be the same without you.

Remember this guy?So they paid 38k more than the 2007 assessed value and now are asking for about $70k over assessed value? Maybe thats why its still on the market.Warren: we're getting a lot of stuff showing up on the market everyday now that we're in the new year. A lot of it looks like expired listings from last year though. Spring sometimes starts in Feb, but I bet most families would wait until the end of the school year to list.

Warren

So… to get things back on topic, when does the "spring season" of RE really start? Feb 1st? Mar 1st? What is typical in past years? It seems like we often get some nice weather in early Feb, when the blossoms come out, and we are the envy of eastern Canada. Is that when a lot of sellers think its time to start listing?

bccubbins: Haha. Thanks for the update, I hadn't checked back on that one. I wonder what happened to the promised price increase? I guess in the end its not really the seller that sets the price if they actually want to sell.

MK-kids: thanks for the link! and don't worry, if its real estate its on on-topic enough as far as I'm concerned. I have a feeling if the market here keeps going down we're going to be hearing a lot of 'the worst is probably over' month after month.

pfffft! The sound of BC Place deflating.POP! BLAM! Kapow! The sound of the BC RE bubble market popping, and crashing.I was driving around when I heard the news, and couldn't wait to get home to write about it. Thanks Pope – now I have to dream up another poem for your anon. poster.Management is now saying, "It was a controlled deflation."That was funny, because one spinning, talking head was going on about how all the speakers were suspended from chains, and about how safe it was, then they had a plebe on who very excitedly told of how the clock crashed down into a section of seats, and other debris was crashing down. The CBC commentator went kind of quiet, and I could sense his discomfort at the reality being broadcast – I could almost see the producer frantically, silently… Read more »

Management is now saying, "It was a controlled deflation."While the staff working inside have a different story.I guess they don't want to scare the public.Sound familiar?
