Downtown Vancouver: If listings were buildings

If listings were floors in a building Spectrum would be the tallest building in Downtown Vancouver. This infographic shows an imaginary skyline based on number of units for sale in a few of the new buildings downtown based on Supersogs post from Monday.

Lots of properties out there for sale, not just in the downtown core.  Listings for the entire REBGV region have been accelerating lately a lot faster than they did in previous spring markets.  We’re close to adding 1000 new listings a week.  Even the spring before the 2009 market dip didn’t see listing rise this fast.  As of last night the inventory count was at 16,741.

Now that you repented, you won't be asked out for a coffee, and there won't be any need to have a "talk" with you.

A little early to tell accurately but it looks like sales may be slowing. If the daily average stays in the low 100s then down we go.

“We foresee a marked weakening in housing” – Mark Carney, BOC

This is as likely as close any central banker will coming to actually saying that housing will crash. -vreaa

realpaul- your post is disgusting.

To use language like infest and sewer is an afront to even a hardened bear like myself.

Haha the upstanding self-righteous morality of Vancouverites never ceases to amuse me.

@realpaul:

While your reference to the Newton area as “The Sewer” is nothing less than ignorant, I do agree with your overall point.

Netwon is one of the cheaper parts of Surrey, and as a visible minority myself, my goal is to steel well clear of the area when I buy.

It’s nothing wrong with other Indians or Chinese (good and bad apples amongst every race and culture), but I want my kids to grow up in a more multi-ethnic environment, which I think is best offered elsewhere.

GOOD POST

I believe this post will remind bears the final inventory peak of 2010 for decades to come for the following reasons.

1.There is scarcity of land in downtown.

2.There is no Olympics in the near future so the Developers won't be able to buy expensive old building for re-developments.

3.Housing starts will never exceed the level seen through 2005 to 2008.

The global economy hole of Greece has wiped off inflation upto Canada that was already lower to 1.3% under Boc's target of 2%.In results Artificial interest rates barking attitudes will reverse and original rates will have to remain low.

Now the buyers can sneak to the towers through VCI to find their favourite towers to buy unit of their choice.Good post

I couldn't let this go. To Globello: Your #4 remark is full of lies and poor reasoning: Lie: -The Goldman Sachs defence looks more like posturing Truth: Goldman Sachs defence was they did nothing wrong or illegal. And truth be told, they didn't do anything wrong or illegal. Everyone who bought those derivatives were fully informed of the structure and chances they were taking of buying those derivatives. This whole thing is just political posturing by the Obama regime to bring in new taxes which they desperately need to cover the rampant blind futile spending they are doing. Lie: -Portugal seeking help from Euro partners Truth: Portugal is not looking for help they have been shouting loudly how they are not in any need of help, and how they are not in anyway like Greece! True: -Greek debt downgraded yet… Read more »

@chip, regarding "BC wasn’t BUILT on racism, it was one of its characteristics, no worse and certainly much better than almost everywhere else." Why do you have to use phrases such as "circle jerk", "sinful monks" and "distant past" in order to make your argument convincing? It seems to me that what you have to say is nothing more than a colourful I'm-gonna-get-in-your-face proclamation. Regarding "to declare racism wrong, that is an almost an entirely Western construct" … wtf does that mean? Does it mean it's therefore OK? Is it right, or is it wrong? Is it wrong because it's western? If it was an "Eastern construct" would it be OK? Sorry but your line of reasoning here makes no sense to me. Overall the "we're no worse than anyone else" argument as a means to justify something, that's a… Read more »

"Described by the fawning Global reporter as “Vancouver’s Condo King”"

Shame of all shame to you Boombust. Aren’t you being discourteous to Mr Rennie?

The MLS, Mr. Klump of CREA, Bill Good, Rob Chipman, Muir, Phil Soper , are all doing the good Lord’s work, and you probably think in such disrespectful, and disparaging way as well.

A few years ago my banker said to me:"You won't believe how emotional people are when they buy a house. Many spend days before making their mind for a car, but would by a house in 24 hours." I did not totally believe her… Today, a friend of mine who had been joking about Vancouver RE prices for the past 3 years, who is bearish and totally against the whole RE craze, told me:" Stop talking RE, I am buying a home, and I do not want to hear any rational argument, or anything about the rising inventory. This is a purely irrational decision, I know it, but this it it." He fell in love with a 35 years expansive mortgage… He is sooooo much in love that he claims he does not mind losing $25,000 per month… It felt… Read more »

"And so its gone full circle. Let me know the next time a BC worker killed on the job is Punjab or Chinese. A faller, a miner, a tradesman, etc. Common sense, where are you?

Current score: 3"

Quit being so populist.

I didn't say it was like that TODAY. It was in those days, though.

@warren: good idea. If anyone has the time to compile that data I’ll make a visual for it.

@Drachen: But then inventory and paulb won’t get their double digit comment ratings!
😀

I’ll look into this and see if I can set something up in the next week or so, but it will be up to those providing the numbers if they want to do it that way.
