look at this crap article published by a realtard:

http://www.stockmarketsreview.com/realestate/2011

– I commented already:

This is a very poorly written story and filled with lies.

Silver was up 84% in 2010 and 66% in the last six months of 2010.

Gold was up 28% in 2010 and up 14% in the second half of the year.

Even Grains were up 50% in the last six months of 2010

These numbers are US dollar returns – the Canadian dollar was up at most 5% over either of these same periods so do the math. Vancouver real estate is a poor investment (opinion) and did not outperform most commodities (fact) – did not even come close.

under the "hype" category:

Opinion: No going back to the pre-recession economy

Scotiabank’s chief economist says Canada should

lead the developed world in economic growth,

albeit at a slower pace than normal

http://tinyurl.com/pillarofstrength

Yet our debt-to-asset ratio remains much better than theirs, he said, because our real estate, most people’s main asset, has held and increased its value while theirs has lost a great deal. So, there you have it. A mixed performance but, among the developed economies of the world, still the best of a bad lot.

Another moron economist that doesn't understand why our FIRE economy will destroy us just like it has countless other nations.

Once again us canucks prove that we are so far behind we think we're first.

Oh, this is too rich… Let's rip Cam Good a new one for this load of crap. "In the last two months, we’ve sold over 700 condos in Toronto. Sixty per cent went to Mainland Chinese buyers." So sales would be down significantly if it weren't for the MC. "In meccas like Richmond, 98 per cent of the hundreds of homes we’ve sold are to buyers who are Chinese.” Richmond is a "Mecca"? I guess so. Miriam Webster defines mecca as "a place regarded as a center for a specified group, activity, or interest" and we can certainly see and safely say that it is Chinese. But let's look even closer at that statement. 98% of sales are Chinese? And what percent are MC? I'm betting a large portion of that so, again, sales would be down significantly otherwise. “Buyers… Read more »

Oh, Canada!

Our homes inflated stand.

Full debt repayment in all thy sons command.

With saddened hearts we see the skies,

For now our homes belong to thee.

From far and wide,

Oh Canada,

We homeless soon shall be.

BC Hydro is saying today that around $100 million in electricity is stolen each year from grow op operations across the province.

I would assume that at least 50% of the grow op operators don't steal the electricity and pay their bills as the operations are still profitable.

That leaves us with an industry that consumes $ 200 million electricity each year.

Can someone do the math based on the energy required for each cycle / marijuana plant and based on the sale price of the end product estimate how big the industry is in BC.

That Cam Good nonsense pretty well sums up The Vancouver Sun and Vancouver for that matter. Yay! Lets make Vancouver a People's Republic of China suburb for corrupt rich Chinese Communist Party cadres and reduce people who earn their living in Vancouver to abject poverty. Great plan! At great expense I recently moved my business out of Vancouver and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It does not make any sense to try to operate a business in a high-cost Chinese suburb like Vancouver. It has all the costs associated with Chinese corruption but none of the benefits associated with China. It's the worst of Canada and the worst of China in one very unappealing package. Of course Cam Good cannot take all the credit for this real estate agents windfall. The Government of Canada has to take a… Read more »

@Runawayscreaming: Here's my anecdote for the day.

My business, which is in the wholesale distribution of goods (I'll leave it at that), has seen a shift in the last 10 years. Some new retail stores that are operated by Chinese, refuse to purchase goods from my company. Reason being…I'm white. They have no problem stating that to me.

So Mr Good's assertion that it is good for business, well, I for one can attest that it isn't always the case. The playing field in which I operate isn't quite even when purchasing decisions are based solely on ethnicity.

@Anonymous: This is one of the reasons I am planning to leave this city. I had Asians including FOB mainland Chinese working for me in the past. Before that, I worked with Asians on various projects. Race did not matter, only skills were important. But now, I am increasingly seeing these racist attitudes by some Chinese and I really resent that. What's even more annoying is that when you confront some of these racists, they will tell you that only "whites" are racists, they just doesn't like our culture. WTF?

Another thing that I resent is that lately even some non-chinese restaurants where I used to go now have Chinese staff that barely speaks any English. Customer service in some stores ditto.

@Anonymous: “In meccas like Richmond, 98 per cent of the hundreds of homes we’ve sold are to buyers who are Chinese.” Note that he keeps switching back and forth in the article between "Mainland Chinese" and "Chinese", and never defines either term. This is an attempt to confuse the readers. At their broadest, "Mainland Chinese" means anyone who originates from the PRC, and "Chinese" means anyone of Chinese ethnic origin. Since all the realtors he represents are ethnic Chinese, we're supposed to be impressed that 98% of their sales in Richmond are to other ethnic Chinese? So what else is new? Think that was any different 10 years ago? And 60% of 400 = 240 condos they've sold in Toronto were to "Mainland Chinese" buyers. Again, so what? The Chinese immigrant community only deals with ethnic Chinese realtors there just… Read more »

Screw that – I have been spending a lot of time in Victoria for work for the past 6 months, and I have decided that is where I am moving now.

First, you still feel like you are in Canada instead of in Beijing.

Second, people are actually nice and friendly, and the customer service at restaurants and stores is what it should be – excellent.

Third, I don't have to worry about my kids being dumbed down in a class where 70% of the kids don't speak English.

Forth, there is tons of natural beauty – and people actually use it, unlike Vancouver. Seriously, when was the last time you saw Chinese cyclists, runners, snowboarders and hikers. People of all ages use the natural wonders of the Island.

Vancouver is a write-off…

I'm not concerned about all this Chinese hubub. I've seen it before in Vancouver with other booms and this will end the same way. The foreign investment is the last in anyways, so this just signals the end is near.

As far as Cam Good is concerned, he's just a self serving condescending lowlife and I can't get too worked up over his pontifications. I also doubt he's making as much money off the Chinese as he alludes to.

I still remember this prophetic interview from 1994, worth to listen again to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PQrz8F0dBI James was arguing at that time against GATT and globalisation without control and the consequences for the future due to the huge size of China. 17 year later his warnings seem prophetic. The same will happen to Canada demographics wise, if we continue at this pace with Chinese immigration. We are not seeing people immigrating here and integrating with the locals like in the past, but rather people coming here and settling in ghetto cities creating little China and little India. Those cities will expand at much a faster pace, especially given the pace of Asian immigration and eventually the English will not be the main spoke language. New immigrants coming from China have no incentive to learn English anymore, as they live amongst other Chinese… Read more »

@Victoria:

And people in the Okanagan are wondering why the Chinese people aren't going there either? So many houses for sale, so few sales…lots of nice places though! 🙂
