@ #116
WTF never in his post said that non-immigrant Canadians are lazy; he said Canadians and you deduced that he is implying non-immigrant Canadians. I was responding to that.

Still have to eat, even when there’s no money left after paying the mortgage.

Interesting; so has the number of unemployed baristas. Wonder if there’s a correlation…. 🙂

#97 – Vancouver definitely does not have “the most expensive Macdonald’s food in the world”. Try going to Europe – you’re charged one Euro for each pack of ketchup you want. In Frankfurt, one coffee and croissant (yes, they have better food than we do) was the equivalent of $12.00. Even Egypt and India charge about the same or slightly more than we do. Try getting out and seeing the world before slagging home.

Just an FYI for folks, changes in the violent crime rate are mostly driven by lead exposure (demographics also plays a role of course).

Crime rates are dropping because the people growing up today did so after we removed lead from gasoline.

Seriously, look it up.

Had to vote up Bull bull bull. Such tangential, brainwashed PC thinking on this blog: If the problem is someone raiding another persons garden plot WTF does that have to do with a vegetable left to rot. Obviously, the person lodging the complaint didn’t plant their plot to leave it to rot. But bigger than that the problem has nothing to do with need, hunger, rotting vegetables or anything else your mind wanders to when thinking of topics related to food, veggies, dirt or gardens. Then the Truther guy pissed that everyone is picking on the Chinese defends them by pointing to violent criminality which is a subsection of criminality in a city that is relatively non violent but known for petty crime from the drug addicted and down and out from the entire country escaping the cold. Then some… Read more »

Just checking in. Still the Vancouver Immigration Info Blog. Nothing on real estate.

If anyone knows of a good blog with actual info on Canada/Vancouver Real Estate, please let me know. This one is dying an ugly death.

“Personally I think it’s even a greater crime to let perfectly good food rot when there are actually people in need who could use it.”

What the fuck are you talking about you moron. 🙂

One more interesting thing this cop said. He was in the fraud department and said that there will be an epidemic of fraud against the elderly. His department was dealing with this issue and it was growing exponentially beyond their scope to serve. He said it is almost impossible to do anything to help as often the victim declines and then dies. Such a depressing conversation. He wanted nothing more to do with San Francisco once he left the force and told us to stay away from area after area of the city. Basically, the whole city should be off limits to tourists in his opinion. I had to laugh. He didn’t laugh. I asked about tourists being held up at gun point and he kept saying yes and even shot at sometimes. He said, oh go to North Beach.… Read more »

Btw, just what happens to the stuff grown in a community garden anyways? Do they just rot away? Or are they gathered up for local charities & food bank? So people in need actually get some real food rather than processed crap?

Developers run them simply to save on property tax as far as I know.

Personally I think it’s even a greater crime to let perfectly good food rot when there are actually people in need who could use it.

@George – I find it very hard to believe that if you went to another country, you would know all their local customs, laws, and language from day one and never ever break any social norms. Cuz local born Canadians are always perfectly socially aware of all countries they visit.

Geez…

Post a sign, run some regular education campaign about what community gardens are for, and problem solved.

There are way bigger issues in the world to get all worked up on. Like for example, all those poor kids who go to school hungry? Or the homeless people on the street who needs a meal? I wonder if you going to get this upset if some Caucasian homeless person start taking stuff from the garden??

Jews are the bigger crime boss. Madoff?

Everyone here wants to go back to 1949? When you can gas any group of people, it was fun, wasn’t it?

Spoke with a cop in San Francisco after the wife and I had met a notorious con man in one of their hotel bars. We couldn’t believe it and phoned the cops to report it. In chatting with the guy, he was very weary of every single group in SF and all their gangs. It’s not like he didn’t mention Asian gangs, believe me. But when it came to the Chinese, he specifically mentioned they’re not overly likely to shoot you or be violent but he said they were no. 1 in white collar crime. So whomever is posting as a True Canadian/Truther, you’ve got to be kidding. Right now, the number one launderer of money on the planet is China. By miles. And the funny thing is, the people getting ripped off big time are their countrymen. No country… Read more »

The lower mainland will be more similar to Hong Kong than Los Angeles in 20 years time.

Who is allowing this to happen?

The lower crime rate of recent immigrants can easily be explained.
If you have a criminal record, you are barred from immigrating to Canada.
