Canada just reopened Mexican visitor floodgates. Expect more pressure on rents and this housing.

Community gardens are just another loophole for them to exploit.

@120: Someone grew that produce, it wasn’t the government or marked ‘free’, so it’s obviously the product of another person’s labor and belongs to someone. Cave people can parse this. What next, excuse treating unlocked doors and cars as ‘communal’ out of cultural sensitivity? What a load of crap.
Clue stick: dishonesty is global and not limited to native-born Canadians. Cut the bigotry.

Now in China, stealing cabbages is small potatoes, just the tip of the iceberg (lettuce?):

@ The Truth of the Matter:

Did you see that post I just made from the Richmond News? It’s not someone saying Chinese people are more pre-disposed to crime. It’s someone saying Chinese people (some of them) don’t understand local social norms in Canada. The comments are coming from a Chinese person herself who is concerned about the lack of integration of some Chinese people into Canadian society. She is so concerned about that, when it comes to food/environment issues, that she is part of the Hua Foundation and has spoken out against the sale of shark fin soup at restaurants in Richmond (you can read more about that by following the links in the article).

Let’s go back and look at the Richmond News article that started this discussion about race and crime: “That’s the surmise of Claudia Li, the founder of the not-for-profit Hua Foundation, which aims to encourage Chinese-Canadians to participate in local food issues. “I think there are people who come from a Chinese culture who have a different relationship with the land,” said Li, herself a Chinese-Canadian. “The idea of community gardens is very unknown in certain parts of the world. In the Chinese culture, and I know this because my gran grew up in China, is that land and what’s on it, is very much treated on a first come first served basis. “If you weren’t allowed to touch what’s there, then there would be a fence around it. ‘Why is there no fence?’ is what they’re thinking. “There is… Read more »

@ The Truth of the Matter: The only person who is trying to demonstrate a causative link between race and crime is you, by pointing out crime statistics and trying to point to increasing numbers of Chinese as the reason behind falling crime stats. Correlation is not causation. Patriotz is absolutely right to point out that the most wanted list is mainly the underclass–which, surprise, surprise, surprise–there are not many Chinese people in our underclass? Why is that? Why are Chinese under-represented among the underclass? I know why! Because, it’s an absolute myth that white people have white privilege and that non-white people are downtrodden victims of systemic discrimination that locks them into poverty and crime. It’s the same reason why blacks in the US make up more of the underclass–yes, some white people in Canada are just as underclass… Read more »

@40 No Noise Says: “VCI is so wierdly quiet, and just plain weird, lately.”

On the other hand the real estate industry spam posts are off the chart. It’s a better leading indicator of market health than number of issued mortgages.

@Happy #114

Where in my post #45 did I imply someone is not Canadian if they are born outside Canada? You need to read my post again because I don’t know where you got that. In fact, I specifically used the terms “immigrants” and “non-immigrant Canadians” because I deliberately wanted to show to the politcally-correct police that I do acknowledge that immigrants are Canadian citizens. If I wanted to imply immigrants are not Canadians I would have just talked about immigrants and Canadians as two exclusively groups and I wouldn’t have had to specify “non-immigrant Canadians”.

@106: “Here are the 60 most wanted by the Vancouver Police. None are Chinese. Vancouver has a 40% Chinese population and none of the 60 most wanted are Chinese.”

Actually CoV is about 30% Chinese. Vancouver CMA is about 20% Chinese. Also those people are wanted for crimes committed in CoV. It doesn’t mean that they live or lived in CoV.

Anyway you are missing the much bigger issue which is that the “most wanted” are virtually all accused of violent crimes committed mostly by the underclass. It doesn’t have anything to do with how law abiding middle and upper class people of any race are. And it’s not an indication of who is committing white collar crimes such as income tax evasion, which is not investigated by VPD in the first place.

@ #45 and #63
So, you are implying that one is not a Canadian if he/she is not born in Canada?

Demographics. The crime rate has been dropping for decades, check Freakonomics. No doubt though struggling local families competing with rich newcomers are falling by the wayside.. Data support for that someone please? Hey rich people, stop squeezing out the ones who make you rich, and they wont come back and rob you. See Henry Ford.

“He and his colleagues have found that, contrary to many popular views, delinquency and crime rates are lowest amongst the most recent immigrants to Canada — no matter where they have come from in the world.

Studies by Statistics Canada looking at Toronto and Montreal neighbourhoods have found exactly the same thing. But Levi’s studies tell us why: Recent immigrants have strong bonds to their families, a commitment to the values of education and engagement in community and public institutions.”

@105 yes except Vancouver is dropping more than the rest of Canada. Both have an aging demographic but Vancouver has an increasing Chinese population. Chinese are the most law abiding people in Vancouver. Not one is on the VPD most wanted list of 60. Facts are facts.

@106 You do understand Asia is a continent made up of dozens of countries. Not all people described as Asian are Chinese especially those with name CAMERON, Kirsten Chelsea.

Sucks to be a racist when you aren’t that bright. Keep grasping and i’ll keep laughing.

“Hmm more Chinese less crime”

Hmm…I read the article top to bottom I can’t seem to find that part. But this bit makes a little more sense than your idiotic pro-China babbling.

“Both professors agreed shifting demographics could also be playing a significant role in the decline, as data from Statistics Canada in 2011 indicate that 20 per cent of the country’s population is now age 60 or older.”

Reported Criminal Code violations in the province dipped by nearly 22 per cent between 2007 and 2011, the biggest decrease in Canada”

Hmm more Chinese less crime. But did they include carrot theft? That is the most troubling crime of them all.

Here are the 60 most wanted by the Vancouver Police. None are Chinese. Vancouver has a 40% Chinese population and none of the 60 most wanted are Chinese. And the topic de jour on the condo blog is Chinese grandmothers taking a couple of carrots from a community garden. I think I would prefer that over rapists, child molesters and murders who are non Chinese. It seems all people desperate to put the Chinese in a poor light can come up with is grandmothers taking carrots from a community garden and speeding tickets by their youth. If that is all we had to worry about for crime Canada would be a much better place to live. I wonder as we get more Chinese if serious crime rates will drop? After all crime rates have been dropping which correlates with Chinese… Read more »

Went to few open houses today in Burnaby. The single houses are all at 1.2 million to 1.3 million. They all rely on the mortgage helpers. Even one house has 3 rental units, 2 on 1st floor, one at back lane storage room. Only one ham house asks 999K, but the realtor said the buyer cannot get it by the asking price, should pay 1.15 to 1.2 million, try to create a bidding war, accept offer tomorrow. There is no fundamental for this market….It’s so disgusting….
