The Condo King has emerged from hibernation and seen no shadow: that means two more years of bubble.

“We no longer live in Vancouver. We live on the planet.”

With that remark, renowned Vancouver realtor Bob Rennie attempted to explain the evolution of this city’s exasperating housing market.

He made the comment last week to a conference of the Urban Land Institute, an organization representing realtors and developers who intimately understand what the condo guru was referring to.

interesting experience in shows that it is not just the HAM in West Van that are self-entitled, it must be a rich person thing. ‘ We are used to HAM ladies lined up in the Mercs in the ‘no stopping area of the rec centre engines going waiting for their kids. I usually tap gently on the window and tell them to switch off their SUVs. Some do and some look the other way. Today I saw that we have our own PITA people too. Waiting in line in the coffee shop with my kids. When they publish an article like the one you reference claiming ‘it’s different here’, you know they are worried. The continued rule of this monumentally corrupt and brutal regime is threatened by any serious downturn in the Chinese economy, even if the downturn is less than what occurred in the U.S., Hong Kong or Japan as a result of the collapse of their property bubbles. We rarely hear of the endless mass ‘incidents’, including strikes, in opposition to the conditions endured by hundreds of millions in that country. Those who rule need high rates of economic growth and extreme repression to keep the lid on the pressure cooker that is Chinese society.
