I vote for “toolie.” I’m sure all our recent IIP friends will agree with the sentiment (once the explanation has been translated into Mandarin for them).

From what I’ve read the way the smugglers operate is they buy a cheap, Canadian-Tire-special quality boat, slap an electric trolling motor or mostly-dead 2 stroke on it, and assign one of the passengers as the driver. The “smugglers” treat the boats as disposable (as well as the people on them), point the passenger/driver in roughly the right direction, and scream instructions from shore.

So what you are posting is a distinction without a difference.

Whither Calgary & Edmonton (and Okanagan) RE valuations? “There’s Just No Cash” Oil Price Increase Will Not Come Fast Enough To Save Alberta by David Yager at OilPrice.com http://oilprice.com/Energy/Oil-Prices/Oil-Price-Increase-Will-Not-Come-Fast-Enough-To-Save-Alberta.html ““There’s just no cash.” That’s the Coles Notes from a senior banker describing the book of oil service loans he manages for one of Alberta’s leading lenders. There’s simply not enough cash flow to support current levels of debt.” “Bankers and borrowers have kicked the can down the road about as far as they can as more oilfield service (OFS) and exploration and production (E&P) companies default on their loans and seek more relief on lending covenants. While a significant oil price increase to lift all the sinking boats will surely come, it won’t happen soon enough. More of the same won’t work.” “Lenders are also in this mess up to… Read more »

Chinese purchases of Australian property have dropped significantly in the past month, according to agents, as buyers struggle to shift money out of the country following Beijing’s move to tighten capital controls.

One Chinese agent said the latest efforts by the central government to avoid large capital outflows were having a “significant impact” on his business.

“It has affected 70 to 80 per cent of current transactions and some have already been suspended,” said the agent who asked not to be named.

the small and medium sized players involved in this activity (with the help of cdn banks) are doing this in broad daylight wihtout taking any of the precautions a whale sized kingpin would normally do. it got to the point where it was assumed all involved would turn a blind eye, that it was ok to do it since everyone else was and that no one would come looking.

Find the appropriate email. Cc head officials. Start petition on change .org with these emails, and get all these people to email their gov.

Phrase email in way that they are loosing out by $$ ILLEGALY leaving the country…theie foreign reserves are falling etc.

bullwhip29:

Great comment. if you want to stop this illegal transfer of money, write to the China government with address of home possibly purchased by illicit funds.

The LAST Names won’t help as most have 2 identities. One for here and one back home.

Their Gov will do the rest with their intelligence already here.

Refugees:

The picture of that small boy resonated everywhere. The father was seen on TV.

Now the facts come out:

1. Father was a human smuggler operating the boats.
2. Child was put in danger by father…not anything else.
3. Sister in law on TV funded the human smuggling operation.
4. Big Business/RE industry asking media to cover up story.

BUT,

People are waking up to the lies regarding immigration. Fraser Institute says it costs $20 Billion more per year. More if you don’t have a house. Check the CBC comments out!

this shouldnt could come as a surprise. the chinese govt is in desperation mode now. not only will the govt be clamping down on large cash/asset transfers going forward, they will be looking into past activities of those deemed to have conducted suspicious activities (along the same lines as stock market traders who defied govt “recommendations” to not sell or speak negatively about the chinese economy). much of the HAM already in Vanc should be very concerned as to what happens with the rest of the family still stuck in China and whether or not they will be “encouraged” to provide more information to authorities.

there is nothing RE developers in Vanc will be able to do about this

A growing number of investors believe that US stocks are overvalued, creating the risk of a significant bear market, according to research by Yale University market scholar Robert Shiller.

The Nobel economics laureate told the Financial Times that his valuation confidence indices, based on investor surveys, showed greater fear that the market was overvalued than at any time since the peak of the dotcom bubble in 2000.

“It looks to me a bit like a bubble again with essentially a tripling of stock prices since 2009 in just six years and at the same time people losing confidence in the valuation of the market,” he said.

“The crackdown from Beijing has seen Chinese banks setting up watch lists for unusual transactions, according to one bank manager, who asked not to be named as he was not authorised to speak about the policy.

He said the operation was aimed at cracking down on a practice whereby family and friends of those wanting to purchase a property overseas all transfer US$50,000 into an overseas account. That’s the limit each Chinese individual is allowed to move out of the country each year.”
