A perfect match…

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended a $1,500-per-person fundraiser at the home of a wealthy Chinese-Canadian businessman earlier this year. Among the guests were one man who donated $1-million to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation and the University of Montreal Faculty of Law shortly after the fundraiser, and another who had his bank approved by regulators weeks later.

Read some more Reddit.

Anyone that mentions immigration is downvoted on housing threads.

This bull market is just getting started. SFD will likely double in price in the coming decade.

Why? People clueless and don’t even know what to protest. Unbelievable. Dumb Canadains.

I was just looking at some Reddit forums regarding housing.

Seems like you Caucasians are so out of touch with the skyrocketing rental prices. One guy started talking about immigration but backtracked when confronted. Hahaha.

The bigger issue not being mentioned is the people living in Vancouver proper are going to. E priced out of rentals within a few years as foreign students and 10 yr visa holders take their place.

Watch the use of eviction loopholes. Renters are fucked. Yet no riots in the streets.

You are right again Oracle, unfortunately the politically correct among us have been indoctrinated and when it comes to Canada’s ‘Holy Grail’ called immigration, they’ve been brainwashed into thinking ‘more, more, more’ is the only solution. Too stupid to think for themselves, they only believe what their teachers and professors told them for the last 20yrs. Canada, a culture of politically correct stupid people who think this country owes the world, for some bizarre reason.

Don’t know how much of this is true but locals in the know were saying that Kathy lady from the G&M is actually working lockstep with the BC Libs.

Supposedly the plan is she writes a story about real estate wrongdoing (as if anyone else can’t lol) that is then published by the G&M (the real gatekeeper) and this gets attention of the BC Liberals who act on it immediately (like they didn’t know).

Any sucker that can’t see this is doomed.

Appearing to have your lunch fed to you by media which is repeatedly pointing out flaws in the system you’re supposed to be tending 1) makes it look like you’re weak on that file and 2) invites all kinds of speculation on why the problems exist in the first place. I don’t doubt that the BC Liberals are in full electioneering mode and want to appear busy on this file, but the motives for their inaction on these topics without reporting is obvious (soooo many vested interests) and there are many other ways to appear to be doing something on real estate without waiting for the media to point out your problems. There are many quotes from even last calendar year from this bunch about “entitlement” from people talking about affordability, not wanting to “interfere” in the market or harm… Read more »

Some of Tomlinson’s reporting earlier this year directly challenged many of the public assertions about BC real estate markets from this government and made them look very inept and foolish. Every time one of these articles drops, the perception that the government is inept on this file appears to be reinforced. Yes, the government was surely aware. These loopholes benefit their biggest donors, their personal real estate holdings, and let them prop up their fake economy a bit more. The government only takes action after the reporting because of the presence of the spotlight on one of the many ways they’re lining the pockets of their paymasters. The idea that they’re using this reporting as an underhanded tactic to introduce real estate policy changes is… bizarre. The BC Liberals have a proven track record of being massively pro-real estate and… Read more »

“In bond traders’ Trump nightmare, some big winners emerge”, Globe & Mail

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/investment-ideas/in-bond-traders-trump-nightmare-some-big-winners-emerge/article32955696/

“After being largely left behind in the era of cheap money, savers may ultimately emerge as the big winners in a world where Trump is president. Yields on 30-year Treasury bonds have risen almost a half-percentage point since the election to 2.99 per cent, as Trump’s ambitious spending plans prompt traders to ratchet up their expectations for inflation and growth. (In Canada, the 30-year bond yield has risen from 1.872 per cent to 2.2 per cent.)”

Trump’s Win May Be Asia’s Loss

Targeting China with trade barriers could pose an unpleasant choice for policy makers in Beijing: accept the hit to growth from weaker exports or respond in kind, economists at Goldman Sachs Inc. wrote in a note. A weaker yuan could trigger an acceleration in capital outflows, pressuring China’s international reserves and draining money from a slowing economy.

How’s this scummy shill getting so much space in media lately to propagate locust’s verminous garbage when the entire community must be on a lookout after those who are using all possible excuses to continue and justify the ongoing mission of money laundering and taking over the LM. Do they really think that everyone is that stupid and should buy into their utter scum and especially from a “professor” who is getting paid out of our tax dollar? “What makes Vancouver unique, he said, was the impact on local real estate that has accompanied the current wave of international students, largely from China. The number of errors in this piece is just breathtaking. It’s a good example of what happens when outsiders report. They have no idea what the situation is, and so they mix things up, then editors, who have even less understanding, come in and tidy things up, so the article is even further from the truth. And this is how 90% of all the articles in the media are written.

As a commenter stated “Well, we either have a vigilante vandalizing vacant homes, insurance fraud, or a quaint way of getting around the heritage home protection.”
To that list I would add: a fast and cheap way of demolishing a home.

I think it’s just a firebug. There is too little upside and too much downside to torching your own property. Insurance will pay only to rebuild and won’t pay anything if they think the owner was in on it (criminal conviction not required). And I think site cleanup cost would be comparable to a demo. But they have a suspect so let’s see.
