So either a negligent pedestrian or negligent driver, or both. Another inexplicable accident considering the conditions reported.
Because of local population, odds are that at least one party is Han Chinese.

It is noticed the Han Chinese have a problem with paying attention, as well as a notable lack spacial awareness. In laymen’s terms, “They are not on the ball”

Generally speaking that is.

CKNW: A Minute with Bill Good

Bill Good is all for AirBnb. Go figure. Apparently he’s never heard of hotels…

bullwhip29

he sounded more aggravated by Campbell’s proposal of tripling the vacancy tax. Bill Good basically moved to Sechelt where he has a waterfront estate and kept a place in Coal Harbour to use whenever he came into town. I would imagine he had to shuffle a few things around to skirt Gregor’s tax (as there currently is no such tax on the Sunshine Coast)

yesterday msm was not initially linking the accident at grdn cty + westminster with the outage at YVR. today there is little mention of yet another ridiculous case of reckless driving that resulted in 1000’s of people losing power (and therefore use of air conditioning). this is a busy intersection where the speed necessary to topple a full sized power pole (presumably after breaking and attempting some evasive moves first) would have been difficult to achieve. i would have paid to see the look on YVR passenger’s faces when word got out that outage was due to a car accident miles away

Name

The system is quite fragile when a car crashing into a pole knocks out power at the airport. A cement barrier to protect that pole is a good idea.

Slava

Inadequate safeguards on public essential infrastructure. Where is all that property tax windfall going, eh Brodie?

Slava

How can these types of inexplicable accidents in sunny weather on low speed conditions continue to happen?

Why do these newcomer hordes from mainland China find something relatively simple, (driving), so complicated?
They generally drive as if terrified and unsure of anything that they are doing, driving below the speed limit, taking forever to get going when the light turns green. It doesn’t help that they mesmerized by their smart phones, probably texting, or somehow otherwise distracted.

It it also seems in the last 20 years that local boomers and soy-boy low testosterone millennials have began to emulate the locust driving habits, as the locusts are the majority so it is understandable that they set the driving trend..lol

Laibach

You nailed it, it became a regular traffic pattern across the city. Yet another aspect of retrogradation and retardation of the society.

Slava

Thanks brother. Neighbouring Washington State, is another place where this contagion has spread.
Over there it is generally zombiefied Washingtonian Caucasians as the culprits, self-righteous boomers, and virtue signaling millenials. It dos not help that our local locusts also infest the place on their time wasting shopping day trips.

>They generally drive as if terrified and unsure of anything that they are doing, driving below the speed limit, taking forever to get going when the light turns green

that’s how HK people drive. mainlanders are much more aggressive, reckless and entitled. same poor situational awareness and inability to see anything unless it’s 10 feet in front of their hood though.

Slava

Isn’t that a sign of intellegince deficiency? Just as their driving, they also generally have a problem walking in puplic.
Could it be certain type of IQ Deficieny that is genetic or culturally learned somehow?

Slava

*public, deficiency…damn word prediction:)

The intelligence deficiency is in thinking that you know the nationality of those involved and the reason for the crash. Did you even go to school?

SIDA’s jockstrap..

Seems foreign locust “Saint SIDA” programming is to defend foreign locusts in knee jerk fashion .
The alibi/excuse is the Real Estate market was fuelled mostly by locals, not foreigners.

Well..I don’t know of anyone(aka a native born or Canadian citizen) that has bought into the Real Estate Market in order to speculate. Exception is a young couple who bought a condo in New West( worth double now)to live in and almost bought another…lucky enough that they were outbid.

TO Fellow VCI’ers…what are you seeing out there ? any anecdotes of” locals” driving the market? or that locusts are the driving force ?

Shut It Down Already (original)

Who gives a fuck about your anecdotes regarding who is buying? We have the data. That’s the so-called “alibi”. Besides, it was the real estate industry which was pushing the “foreigners buy everything” angle, in case you’d forgotten.

And, as I’m sure patriotz will tell you, anybody who buys right now (or in the last couple of years at the very least) is a speculator. I’m sure even you can work out why.

Lost...but not leased

Actually SIDA,…the invitation was not really extended to you…..(.especially since Jenny Kwan stood you up…… again.)

Now I see you have formed an alliance with patriotz ? diminishing their credibility?

Alleged “data” tends to be skewed….given documented ownership had various means to avoid transparency.
Oracle has shown us numerous ways a NON citizen/NON resident can escape scrutiny, as Gov’ts are now forced to increase transparency.

@sshole……

Shut It Down Already (original)

The proof, dipshit, is that it’s cheaper by far to rent so the only reason to buy is expectation of price appreciation.

I personally know 3 (average) people that have 3-5 properties … not cabins, lol. One even “joked” that “you have to fund retirement somehow”. The crash/correction is going to devastate a lot of young and old amateur real estate investors and drag a lot of good people down with it.

I arrived in YVR through the international terminal last night. What jumps out at you are that the walls are full of ads from local developers. They aren’t targeting locals coming back from Mexico of course.

It’s amazing that the large influence of foreign money on our market is still a point of debate to some.

It should be a crime that our previous government made no attempt to capture statistics around that. Rather, they did the opposite.

Just me

Thanks Dave. The massive Mandarin ads promoting the sale of Vancouver real estate are just one aspect of the total disaster that this city has become. Not only we are openly selling our scarce land resources to rich Chinese. But we are also accusing those who question this practice of racism.

What exactly is racist in pointing out the truth? Why is it racist to say that millionaire migrants are ruining the very fabric of our society and changing the city irreversibly?

A few people (including some developers and politicians) gain from this. Everyone else loses.

patriotz

“A few people (including some developers and politicians) gain from this.”

A lot more than a few people think they are gaining from this. They are the real problem.

Just me

They “think” they are winning is different from actually winning. I agree that many delusional people, often voting for the BC Libs, think that the Chinese buyout of land in Vancouver is a good thing. As I said, they are delusional.

Lost...but not leased

BC economy in late 1970’s was in the sh*tter….their were fears we would end up like Detroit.

Socreds brought EXPO 86 as mind candy for locals and also setting it up for a major giveaway to Chinese Billionaire Li Kai Shing….the timing was perfect to attract all the scared Hong Kong cash looking for a safe haven prior to 1997. aka Li Kai Shings blessing had Hong Kong expats flooding Vancouver area buying up Real Estate.

After 1997, we had Mainland China invasion.

In essence, we have surrendered our sovereignty over past 30 years in the worst way possible..outright sell out of our children’s etc. future without a shot even being fired.

Our only industry is based on Chinese model of Ghost City construction and speculation.
That’s coming to an end…

Shut It Down Already (original)

Using racial slurs, characterizing Chinese people as vermin or insects, and otherwise making childish generalizations based on nationality – those are the things that result in accusations of racism. Your constant bleating is becoming tiresome.

Just me

Criminals deserve epithets, whatever the nationality. As far as I am concerned, any criminals (Russian, German, Filipinos, Chinese or whatever you please) are deserving of scorn.

The only tiresome thing is your continuous advocacy of the shameful behavior of millionaire migrants in Vancouver,

Shut It Down Already (original)

Weasel. I don’t advocate criminality, and I’m unaware of “millionaire migrants” being any more guilty of shameful behaviour than non-millionaire locals. Most of them, at least the ones I know, are educated decent people. Unlike certain others I could mention.

You didn’t need to say where they’re from.

There is only one nationality you consistantly defend 100% of the time and will never once criticize.

We’re not stupid, despite what you think.

Shut It Down Already (original)

You’re plenty fucking stupid, actually. I have no need to criticize any nationality, but racists need to be sent back to the caves in which they belong. You’re first.

I agree with you that there is no need to use racial epitaphs. I think it detracts from serious discussion.

Our City has a major real estate crisis and I’m not sure our policy makers actually understand what the problem is. We don’t have good statistics on the flow of money to this City and the legitimacy of said money.

Best place on meth

“What exactly is racist in pointing out the truth? ”

No need to ask such an irrelevant question, it only brings out the worthless, race baiting traitors.

In fact, don’t mention race or racism at all and you’ll deprive such trolls of the only fuel that keeps them going.

Vancouver’s housing affordability crisis is being driven by development speculation and the unchecked flow of foreign capital. But rather than deal with these real issues, the crisis is being falsely framed as a lack of housing supply. In fact, rezonings for increased density inflates land values, which is a big part of the problem.
https://vancouversun.com/opinion/opinion-affordability-crisis-more-of-the-same-is-not-the-solution

Shut It Down Already (original)

Lack of supply isn’t the problem, it’s insatiable demand caused by people looking for a lottery win. They’ll vanish just as soon as this all-you-can-eat buffet comes to and end.

realist

The above Vancouver Sun article is well worth a read. It is written by the highly informed Elizabeth Murphy, a former property development officer for the City of Vancouver’s Housing and Properties Department and for B.C. Housing. Her conclusion:

So the pattern is upzoning for more housing supply, land speculation, demolition of older more affordable housing, and redevelopment to expensive units marketed as offshore investments. Further increasing housing supply in this way is not going to address the problem of affordability for locals. Simple supply and demand economics are no longer working…The answer is much more complex. It needs to deal with foreign capital flows and speculation.
