Will be intetesting to see what this goes for. They likely didn’t put $9 million into the build.

Wow, $13Mil??? That’s an ordinary lot with nothing special about it, no view or anything. Being generous, the replacement cost of that house is $2mil max. I would have a very hard time seeing that place sell for more than $6Mil, and even that would be a massive rip off.

“Chinese-Canadian group defends detained Huawei CFO”

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/chinese-canadian-group-defends-detained-huawei-cfo-1.4938445

In a hastily pulled together press conference in Richmond, B.C., a small group calling itself the United Association of Women and Children in Canada spoke — often through a translator — in Meng’s defence. The group did not describe the nature of what it does, and says it is not associated with the Chinese government.
The chair of the group, Mei Han Dong said that because Meng is a Chinese citizen, she should be governed by Chinese law.
“We believe that the law of the United States cannot override international law,” she said.
“We hope this will stop. This is supposed to be a serious matter but looks like a joke between the two countries.”

Why do I have that sinking feeling that Justine will cave at some point?

patriotz

“Why do I have that sinking feeling that Justine will cave at some point?”

Because you’re out of touch with reality. The PM has no legal authority over extraditions. The justice minister does, but I can’t recall the last time the JM overrode a judicial extradition. Frankly I think it’s more likely that the US drops the charges in some kind of deal, but I don’t expect that either.

JT sucks

JT sucks

Yea you’re right, our PM has no “direct” say in the matter. If she did, Wanzhou would not have been arrested in the first place.
But if you think the threats and warnings from China were intended for our courts instead of our government, then I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn that you might be interested in. It’s all about trade-offs and concessions in other areas that will probably begin with another apology from Justine. Hopefully she can manage that without crocodile tears.

patriotz
Member

“But if you think the threats and warnings from China were intended for our courts instead of our government”

That’s a bit of a false dichotomy, since the Chinese aren’t too big on the concept of separation of the two. Anyway, the Chinese feel they have to act tough on this and there’s less downside on acting tough against Canada than the US.

You are entitled to your own views, but I’m predicting that the Canadian government is not going to let her off the hook. That’s a testable prediction.

” If she did, Wanzhou would not have been arrested in the first place.”

“Trump denied knowing about it (smart)”

In fact Trump has not publicly commented on whether he knew in advance. However members of his administration have. If you think Trump is OK with his subordinates lying to the American people, that’s your call. I think Kudlow was just telling the truth.

““He did not know,” Kudlow said on “Fox News Sunday.” “He did not know, and he had no reaction afterward. . . . He didn’t know. I’ll just state that unequivocally. He learned way later.””

Feel free to call it cherry picking, but he didn’t correct anything. The point, which you seem to have missed, is that Meng had enough faith in the US justice system to send her son to school there while she had good reason to believe that the US was bringing a case against her. We know, and she probably knows, that right now China is holding US citizen children hostage for the alleged offences of their parent.

Not that black and white. I don’t think anyone is suggesting we should side with China against the US. Neither should we assume that our American pals care much about the best interests of Canada. Nor should we feel comfortable with a degree of dependence that makes us continually susceptible to US pressure. Trump is an obvious illustration of the problem, but hardly the only one.

The biggest threat to Canadian independence is our best friend the United States. We need ways to counter-balance that, absolutely.

Take the economy as an example. Over half our exports go to the US — more than 7 times what we export to our next largest trading partner.

The health of our economy is dependent on the whims of the Americans, as we see with Trump’s tariffs. This is the dictionary opposite of independence.

Yep;

“Pierre Trudeau opted not to serve in World War II, although of age and in good health. He traveled to Josef Stalin’s Soviet Union to participate in regime-sponsored propaganda activities. He wrote in praise of Mao’s murderous regime in China. Trudeau lavishly admired Fidel Castro, Julius Nyere, and other Third World dictators. The Soviet dissident Andrei Amalrik scathingly recalled Trudeau’s 1971 prime ministerial visit: Trudeau visited the Siberian city of Norilsk and lamented that Canada had never succeeded in building so large a city so far north – unaware, or unconcerned, that Norilsk had been built by slave labor.”

Obama had an approval rating of 46.9 in his second year of his first term similar to where Trump is now. Obama never got to 50% approval in the next 6 years. All the with media fawning over his every move no matter how much the guy failed.

Ship that to US ASAP, we already have an excess of crap around, no need for more of it.

“Her family also sought leave to remain in Vancouver if she was granted bail, according to court documents. Her husband said he plans to bring the couple’s daughter to Vancouver to attend school “depending on the length of proceedings.”

“Meng Wanzhou’s bail hearing is set to resume Monday in Vancouver where she has ‘significant property holdings'”

She doesn’t live here but she has multiple properties here.

It’s because of scum like her multiplied by tens of thousands that we have a city where no local has any chance of owning a home anymore.

Extradite her and let her rot in a US prison until she dies.

Our scum politicians allowed this to happen. We shouldn’t feel ashamed to bring in policies to reverse this bullshit.

which school? so, in the middle of the school year they think they can just show up and there will be an empty spot waiting for them? or is this yet another scheme to deceive the public and authorities?

That will be easy, they will just donate a Steinway piano or a swimming pool to school.

“which school?”

A private school, I would think.

that would be a certainty. what i am saying is that some other kid or the whole class for that matter would be compromised to house this criminal’s child. as if they can continue on business as usual without any of this being a distraction and/or a security issue too. worse yet, i have a feeling she is just saying all this to persuade the judge to back down. how would anyone even know if the child is actually hers and if so, whether she would just abandon her? notice that child is a girl not a princeling…

Wrong again you worthless, lying, non-English speaking prick.

I detest the word “chink” and would never use it but I’m not surprised that your lying ass would try to tie me to it the way a CNN “reporter” would.

You never stop lying.

How was I lying? As a self-declared expert on the English language I expect nothing but an exceptional explanation from you.

Oh wait, I wasn’t lying and you’re doing what you do best – misrepresenting what others say.

Just fuck off, you uneducated loser.

if authorities fall for any of this crap, she will flee the country. no if’s, and’s or but’s about it. imho her team will say or do anything to coax the powers that be to ease up somewhat…and then, poof…just like that they’ll get rug whipped out from under them. i would go so far as to suggest she might even resort to classic tricks of misdirection and use a decoy child to throw everyone off the scent while she packs up and leaves. who here actually believes that the “break in” wasn’t an inside job and/or a desperate attempt to taint the whole investigative process?

China sending 2 warships to confront the US Navy on the South China Sea.

Hopefully 2 Tomahawk missiles takes these Sida’s out. When the war starts, India should attack from the southern front.

Former CSIS director looked very concerned on the Liberal government stance regarding China. However, I have faith that our intelligence agencies aren’t bought out and are working with our friends to the south.

Now is the time to confront China. Every time they push forward, we fall back giving them the benefit of the doubt. No longer. The line is drawn here.

Look at how they’ve imprisoned those 1 million people on the southwest. Despicable Barbarians.

CRA deploys new weapons against tax evasion: Freezing assets, seizing property

I saw this. Canada’s reputation as a tax haven is quickly degenerating. Hopefully we’ll see some high profile seizures and it’ll scare all the rest of the international tax cheats away. The case they mentioned is a good start:

“The case at the heart of the CRA’s initiative pits the agency against an Ottawa couple — Chi Van Ho, 52, and Thanh Ha Thi Nguyen, 49 — who own a number of rental properties…. They are accused of under-reporting their income between January 2008 and December 2013 by $3.1 million, evading $523,532 in taxes…. Ho and Nguyen were charged in late October. The CRA has seized or restrained six rental properties and an automobile belonging to the couple.”

I’d like to see a lot more of this sort of thing.

The only person who kept saying this was OK was Christy Clark (and the large chunk of BC Libs that still support her).
Decades of encouraging such behaviours.

“In many respects, and despite the lamentable newsworthiness of her current circumstances, Meng’s relationship with Vancouver and Canada is a cookie-cutter tale for a rich Chinese immigrant.
Although the programme under which Meng immigrated is not known, fellow millionaire migrants tend to exit Canada with alarming readiness. More than 40 per cent of breadwinners in Chinese-dominated millionaire migrant households have left Canada, according to the most recent Census.“

She is a poster child of a typical rich Chinese with the connection to Vancouver, fraudster, launderer, and scumbag with general locust agenda.

“There are some unanswered questions about Meng’s situation. While she was a permanent resident in Canada pre-2009, was she also paying income tax here as her star rose in Huawei? It’s not clear we’ll find out any time soon – and, frankly, Meng has a lot more to worry about than a potential CRA audit. She faces up to 30 years’ jail in the US on each of multiple fraud charges. Meng holds both Hong Kong and mainland passports, but is she also a Canadian citizen? That too is unclear, but under Article 9 of China’s Nationality Law, foreign naturalisation amounts to the renunciation of Chinese citizenship – a potentially perilous situation for someone doing business in the mainland should it be revealed. Without making assumptions about Meng’s family, it is more typical among wealthy reverse immigrants for their spouse… Read more »

me and many others here warned that chinese immigrants in vancouver were going to make this city a battle ground in a larger geo-political conflict.

it should be obvious to everyone at this point that this is THE major issue our city is facing.
