Your predictions for 2019

Ever felt like telling the future?

What do you foresee happening to the local economy an housing market in 2019? Where will interest rates go?

The Bank of Canada seems to think we’re not in for hot growth and are keeping rates flat for the moment.

A couple of brokerages predict prices will stay flat or decline only slightly in 2019.

The general consensus and safe bet is to predict a status quo situation.  No major drops or increases in the market.  That sound about right?

“Home prices in Vancouver, B.C., fell 1.9 percent in November from a month earlier, the most in a decade, extending a recent run of declines for Canada’s most expensive real estate market.”

10 nurses in BC Children’s Hospital ER resign over unaffordable housing

Happening every day. If you are a young working professional without attachments, leaving is absolutely the best option for you. Go south. Every single city on the West Coast will treat you better than this corrupt filthy city. If you’re a nurse, you’re probably going to get great health benefits too.

Right, we don’t need nither nurses nor other children’s hospitals in the city except only Richmond Hospital which is home to a booming birth tourism industry that while technically legal, operates in a grey zone and is seen by many as an affront to the immigration system and exploitative of Canada’s healthcare system. It is good for business!

Bang on Dave. All of the people still trying to justify the poor policies that have driven up the cost of living here (or attacking the measures attempting to correct that situation) should actually crunch the numbers on how far a doctor or nurse’s income goes if you’re starting out here today.

I have referred to those examples repeatedly in real life and I’ve seen it give pause to even the most entrenched anti-Eby/ “hard earned equity” types. Prices will either continue to decline (by a lot) or real estate equity is going to be taxed to the hilt just to sustain a bare minimum of health care levels.

Perhaps Meng-Meng could let them live in her other mansion in Shaughnessy? Big house, it should be enough room for all nurses and their families.

“City staff have recommended the empty foundation and abandoned construction crane at 6289 Carnarvon St. be recognized as a danger to public safety. Declaring it a nuisance would give city workers the right to clean up the property without the owner’s permission if it isn’t taken care of.”

Ideally the city will then charge $3 million dollars for the cleanup, thus discouraging such scummy behavior from the usual disrespectful suspects who don’t give a shit about our laws.

Interest rates rise only slightly because….Canadian economy goes down the toilet but even a 4% mortgage rate will be a horror show for current prices and those renewing.

China’s ‘Tantrum Diplomacy’ and Huawei

https://www.realclearworld.com/articles/2018/12/12/chinas_tantrum_diplomacy_and_huawei_112927.html

As Huawei’s chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou sits in Canada, awaiting potential extradition to the United States, her case underscores two themes that have become evident throughout 2018:
1. The ambitions of China’s technology and telecommunications firms are feeling a pronounced pushback from across the developed world, which is likely to severely hamper their abilities to reach their lofty development and expansion goals. This also puts China’s ambitious development objectives in question as well.
2. The tools of statecraft which China seems to rely on in managing the more tempestuous global environment are remarkably limited, and often counterproductive.

What’s the worst China could do with access to Canada’s 5G network?

Any hostile power with the keys to 5G systems could spy, disrupt traffic and even poison water supplies if things got nasty, warn experts. Hence all the fear about Huawei.

“Today, a lot of water filtration systems work on computers,” Tobok says. Those systems will add a certain amount of chlorine to destroy bacteria, fluoride for dental health and any other additive to keep the water healthy and safe to drink. “If we added more chemicals to the water supply, people would get sick, the hospitals would start getting full and then people would start dying.”

They get it just fine. That’s why so many Chinese are buying up our cities… we have the rule of law.

The part they don’t get is the self inflicted damage they are doing to their economy. You think Westerners will want to invest in China in the future if they can be arbitrarily arrested? I think this is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have seen a country do in recent history. If they had half a clue, they would send a message to Canada in other ways, not hinder future investment.
