Tomorrow’s a good day to test out that pepper spray you’ve had in storage for years to see if it still works.

I hope they still works and people do actually use them.

ReMax home price estimator seems doing a decent job:
https://www.remax.ca/home-estimates-canada

You need to login to use, and it gives a reasonable range of prices, e.g. a $700,000 condo is given $670,000 ~ $730,000
Try it.

I’m back. After doing a lot of work on the election issue.

I hope the whiners here did the same. If you kept only posting on this site, then you’ve failed. You needed to get engaged.

In 4 days we shall know the direction of Canada. Trudeau wins then expect the entire lower mainland to price out locals. Can’t happen? Just wait.

Immigration will soon be raised to 400,000 per year. That’s about 100,000 to the lower mainland each year.

Good luck.

Oracle

I’ll keep you posted to as why this was the most important election Canadian history.

All any party has to do next election is promise the millions of recent immigrants here complete and total family immigration and along with Quebec, that will guarantee victory perpetually.

The only wildcard going forward is whether Alberta separates. Taking The prairies with it.

Shut It Down Already (original)

Those same immigrants are going to be paying for your EI.

Oracle

I’m not upset SIDA. I’m against mass immigration primarily cause of housing. And having the old culture thrown back onto us.

If the whites vote in Trudeau, then so be it.

BUT, we will want Indian regions across Canada. Fraser Valley will become dominant Indian and we will demand our holidays and customers here. No negotiation.

And dual citizenships.

We will want housing structures changed to accommodate extended families.

What these whites don’t understand is that real change is coming. They’ve been played for fools.

Oh well.

Oracle

Plus SIDA, the Asian can stay north of the Fraser. That’s already happening. There will be no culture mixing. We both know that but let the locals believe these fairy tales. Lol

Shut It Down Already (original)

Actually, I suspect the intersection between things “we both know” is quite small.

Oracle

And your sphere which I don’t know is much smaller than my sphere which you don’t know.

Your sphere probably involves the terms “free salt” “money laundering” “eating dogs” and the like.

Sorry. Don’t know that.

Shut It Down Already (original)

That proves my point quite nicely, thank you.

Best place on meth

But to be against mass immigration is “racist” and “xenophobic” according to limp wristed far left cocksuckers like Turd and Jag.

That’s not why you’re a racist. But you knew that already.

CRA combating underground economy with Home Depot purchase records
https://globalnews.ca/news/6036682/cra-underground-economy-home-depot/

YVR

What a dumb idea. Does CRA believe those who do cash home improvement deals pay for their supplies by credit card? Makes no sense. If you accept all cash you pay for supplies in cash which home depot would not have a record of who paid it. Those who pay for the supplies by credit card can use that as an expense to offset claimed income plus they get a GST credit. No reason to hide it. Like there is not enough low hanging fruit for those evading taxes. Just randomly audit any home owner with a house worth over $5 million which was bought in the last 5 years.

Oracle

This is to appease the dumb locals.

Recession odds in Canada’s crude, condo and cannabis economy
If a recession does come, it “could actually be a lot more severe than people think,” according to David Wolf, part of the asset allocation team at Fidelity Investments Canada.
“The reason for that is it’s most likely to come from abroad,” Wolf said, adding that it could result in Canada’s first credit-cycle retrenchment since the early 1990s.
Wolf said he’s underweight the Canadian dollar and expects to see a “pretty significant depreciation in the currency” over the medium to long term.
“Canada actually stands out for us as being one of the more vulnerable economies despite what looks like a pretty good environment right now,” Wolf said.

Just too much immigration.

Couple that with a dumb populace voting against their own self interests.

SilentBob

Sounds like good news to me too, just don’t ask how much money has been spent prosecuting this case so far, let alone the final tally after all the appeals have been exhausted. Draconian though it might be, the Chinese criminal justice system has some advantages over ours.

Doomcouver

Well, that rule of law is there to protect innocent people. Just because it makes it less efficient to prosecute criminals doesn’t mean we should strip the protections is offers. I think it’s money well spent if we can send the message to money launderers that Vancouver isn’t “open for business” anymore.

Conservative candidate Kenny Chiu is thankful for being able to reunite with his dog after his home was broken into on Thanksgiving Monday
https://www.richmond-news.com/news/kenny-chiu-reunites-with-dog-after-break-in-1.23977913

Chiu returned to a “ransacked home” after attending a volunteer appreciation Thanksgiving dinner

The home’s security features were destroyed and disabled

the same RCMP officer who showed up to the break-in call had also attended to an earlier report of a wandering dog in the neighbourhood

his two daughters, his wife and his 82-year-old mother were not in the house to face the thieves

” Same as Trudeau wearing a bulletproof vest ”

Or donning a hard hat and yellow jacket while slimeball Gerry Butts tries to link Scheer to the Yellow Vest movement for shaking hands with an enthusiastic construction worker wearing a customary required safety vest.

Dave

That sure backfired on Butts. If you asked 10 people about the Yellow Vest movement, I bet only 1 or 2 would know what it is and bet almost none would associate it would some type of racist movement. The image of Scheer with a blue collar worker is a good visual for him. The Liberals are the ones looking like elitists, which I believe it the case.

JT sucks

If you asked 10 people who Gerald Butts is, I bet that only 3 or 4 would know that he has been our real Prime Minister for the last 4 years. Sadly, Justin is just a clueless puppet while Butts is the most devious shameless sleethebag in politics.

Timing and circumstances, and the purpose of a yellow vest in a vehicle.

Last year at this time, my car broke down in Clearwater, BC, not just once but a couple of times. I put the Safety vest on and walked to where I had to go,.. just in time for the big raze that was percolating and coming to a boil in Grande Prairie, across the border. People on tv were wearing yellow vests to signify their protests, and I’m walking around town attempting to get my van up and going. So it was bizarre. Here they are at the YellowHead roundabout yellowvesting. Here I am getting an RCMP klaxon blown at me as I walk to city hall.

Burnaby’s new tax on landlords is class warfare that will backfire

https://www.burnabynow.com/opinion/your-letters/letter-burnaby-s-new-tax-on-landlords-is-class-warfare-that-will-backfire-1.23976651

“I currently earn significantly less than a one-per-cent rate of return (before tax) on my rental house in South Burnaby and this new $570 annual fee will further decrease my return. At some point, it fails to make any economic sense to continue.”

too bad and so sad. I get a kick out of these speculator landlords who cry about having to pay more for city services for their “investment” properties. All the while creating artificial demand for properties and driving up the prices for everybody.

YVR

The government on one hand is providing subsidies to multi family rental buildings by reducing development levies but with the other hand they are increasing taxes on individual landlords through schemes like this and through higher property taxes (no home owners grant). Sucking and blowing. Do they want more rentals or not? We now have the lowest vacancy rates in the country coupled with the highest rents which are increasing at triple inflation. What a disaster.

Just thinking

This is the City of Burnaby not the provincial government.

Shut It Down Already (original)

What a tool.

Joe Money

Seems like nobody told this Burnaby landlord that, in this century’s market, nobody makes money from renting out a home… they make money solely from the appreciation of the home price.

Just thinking

AKA speculator…

Doomcouver

Let’s just be honest, almost all home-buyers in Canada in the past 2 decades are speculators.

Bestplaceonearth

Aren’t we all speculators! The renters have speculated on the government freebies. How has it worked out for them?

Doomcouver

I think you’re right most people are speculators. Bears know they’re speculators. Most bulls don’t think they’re speculators though, they’re “smart investors”.

Bestplaceonearth

Then just don’t cry foul when receiving a rental increase notice. Someone has to pay for these greedy government taxes. The landlords will not ignore that annual 2.5% anymore.

Just thinking

or they will just eat it like this speculating LL will do …

Doomcouver

Yeah landlords haven’t been able to get a decent rental yield since the ’90s. They’ll have to eat the cost of this tax just like they eat the cost of everything else. They’ll do it because they’re expecting a windfall in capital appreciation every year. It’s not sustainable and these amateur landlords will dump their inventory on the market en-masse when the common narrative shifts to a bear market.

The Allens and their two sons, who were 7 and 10 at the time, moved into their home on Gladys Avenue, near Highway 11 and S Fraser Way, in September 1989.
Fifteen years later, the Salvation Army Centre for Hope moved into the space next door, and she says the family’s “life changed overnight.”
They tried to move, but couldn’t sell the house for the amount they paid.

So because they overpaid in 1989 when the market was in a bubble they couldn’t get what they paid when they tried to sell 15 YEARS LATER at the bottom. See how long the market can languish?

Under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the country has aggressively wooed immigrants. Its Global Skills Strategy program, for example, offering temporary work permits to applicants in as little as two weeks, has lured about 40,000 workers and their family members over the past two years.
Canada is also popular, Hu said, especially for clients who want to follow family members who previously emigrated there.
