The CDC website says that their preliminary estimates get revised as more accurate information becomes available. And that’s precisely what happened here. Unless you think a CNN article from 2018 citing the CDC is more authoritative than the CDC’s own website today? LOL. Go see the numbers for yourself.

And either way you’re trying to compare an entire year of deaths with 3 months of fatalities. Which, as I’m sure you’ll agree, is nonsensical. And perhaps this also escaped your attention but those 100,000 deaths came despite drastic steps taken the mitigate them. We don’t do this every year. So there would have been far more Covid-19 deaths under the same day-to-day conditions as any recent flu season.
