Friday Free-for-all! July 3rd, 2020

It’s the end of another week and that means it’s time for another open topic discussion thread!

In the competition for Number 1 victim, I’m afraid Dave is completely out of the running. They seem incapable of blaming others for their problems and instead resort to reason and debate.

A very persuasive argument is made by Vancouver Born & Bred that they are the number one victim. Reality seems to be very hard on this poster who has been marginalized as a white trump-supporting virus-denying commenter that constantly posts ‘culture war’ argument starters.

Commenter Slava fails to make a convincing argument of their own victimization, but seems to argue that acknowledging gender identity in education is very similar to what the Nazis did? Is that far enough from the topic of real estate?

So what are you seeing out there? Post your news links, thoughts and anecdotes in the comments below (see if you can find anything that relates to real estate) and have an excellent weekend!

“Pandemic heats up Vancouver rental property market”, Business In Vancouver

https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/vancouver-news/pandemic-heats-vancouver-rental-property-market-2540954

““My general belief is that a long slowdown would be bad for rents and home prices,” said Tom Davidoff, director of the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Urban Economics and Real Estate. “When I say bad for the market, I mean the price goes down, not that it is bad from a social welfare perspective.””

‘Davidoff agreed with Real Estate Investment Network senior adviser Don Campbell, who recently told Business in Vancouver that the pandemic could be a “psychological shock” to over-leveraged homeowners and investors, who may decide to scale back large mortgages and exposure to real estate investments.”

China Is a Genocidal Menace

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/07/andrew-sullivan-china-is-a-genocidal-menace.html

“There is no doubt at this point that communist China is a genocidal state. The regime is determined to coerce, kill, reeducate, and segregate its Uighur Muslim population, and to pursue eugenicist policies to winnow their ability to sustain themselves.

We already know about the reeducation camps. We found out this week the grisly detail that China may even have been exporting human-hair products taken from Uighur political prisoners in those camps. What the AP helps us better understand is how the regime is forcibly sterilizing Uighur women inside and outside the camps, attempting to control the Uighur population by assaulting basic reproductive freedom.”

Anyone who doesn’t forcefully speak out against china is complicit, especially ethnic chinese.

COVID-19 is close to losing its epidemic status in the U.S., according to the CDC
The percentage of coronavirus deaths in the country has been declining for ten straight weeks.
Coronavirus deaths in the country have nearly reached a level where the virus will cease to qualify as an epidemic under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rules, the federal agency reported on Friday.

Of course. Because a cases are rising more than would be expected by increased testing. Hospitalizations are increasing. ICUs in Florida are starting to fill up. More people will die from Trump Virus, 190000 total deaths projected by the end of summer.

It’s almost as if praying for a miracle, wishing that hot weather would take care of the problem, playing golf, and packing the churches wasn’t good enough. Go figure.

And I’m sure a numbers guy like you is aware of the fact that reported deaths are generally lower on the weekend. I mean, it’s right there on worldometers.

Here another link from the CDC on the spread of influenza. Does it sound any different than Covid-19? There’s the same “up to 6 feet away” and “droplets”. A virus is a virus is a virus. “Person to Person People with flu can spread it to others up to about 6 feet away. Most experts think that flu viruses spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Less often, a person might get flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. When Flu Spreads People with flu are most contagious in the first three to four days after… Read more »

Backwards, your engaging with a completely brainwashed anti science flat earth asshole.

We know HQC works if treated early but the shit stain refuses to concede. Likewise We know from over 10 RTC Peer reviewed studies going back 100 years that masks are useless for the general public.

Ignore the cocksucker.

Shut It Down Already (original)

Dummy, CDC guidelines recommend masks. Even Pence now recommends masks. Every country which mandated masks early had a better outcome than others.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

backwardsevolution

No one should feel embarrassed for having an opinion based on facts and reason. I don’t.

The CDC might recommend the use of masks, but they know (and almost all experts agree) that no mask is going to stop a virus. If you are vulnerable, you have a good chance of getting the virus, mask or no mask.

And you don’t know that other countries had a better outcome because of masks. They also did extensive contact tracing, had stricter quarantines. Maybe cross-immunity was higher. There are a lot of factors that could have come into play.

Getting rude and hysterical doesn’t faze me. Sorry.

Shut It Down Already (original)

Another strawman. I’ve never said that masks stop all transmissions. They reduce them. And that’s exactly what I quoted earlier on, the quote you clearly didn’t read or understand.

backwardsevolution

Masks might stop the really big droplets, like when someone sneezes on you, but the hundreds of thousands of micro particles that are expelled from that very sneeze will easily penetrate your mask. Breathing in and out will do the same thing, although a sneeze is more explosive.

You’re changing your tune now because someone is challenging you, someone with facts. Maybe it is you who doesn’t understand. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. There are lots of people out there like that. They don’t read, relying instead on the media and the vested interests.

I’m quite confident you will get there.

Shut It Down Already (original)

Changing my tune? Don’t be a fool. Go back and read my posts s-l-o-w-l-y. All of them. Feel free to quote any contradictions (you won’t find any).

Yes, a mask won’t catch a sneeze. And I never said it would. Enough with the ridiculous strawman – that’s, what, your fourth attempt at it now? Or is it fifth?

A mask will catch many droplets, such as those produced while talking (note that once again I’m specifically not saying it will catch “all”). Those droplets then cannot infect other people. The overall rate of infection population-wide is therefore reduced. It’s not exactly rocket science, and it’s all on the CDC website (and the BCCDC website if you’d prefer).

At least you’ve moved on your from hilarious statements about “C02” (sic) being trapped inside. That’s small progress for you, I suppose.

backwardsevolution

Yes, it’s clear to me and everyone else reading your posts that you ARE changing your tune. We all learn at different speeds.

If a mask is not going to catch droplets from a sneeze, and if it’s not going to catch “all” or maybe “very few”, then what’s the point? These virus particles are microscopic and there are hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of them being expelled.

All it takes is one. What, is 50 the magic number? You don’t know your hat from a virus.

If your immune system is compromised, if you have other ailments, it’s best to stay away from crowds altogether because no mask is going to save you.

Shut It Down Already (original)

Oh my. You’re clueless, aren’t you?

You’re asking what’s the point of decreasing the probability of a transmission event occurring for every single person-person interaction throughout the entire population? Seriously?

We definitely learn at different speeds. LOL.

backwardsevolution

Yes, you are probably right. Arguing with people like that is like bashing your head against a wall. But these types are dangerous because they are the very people who shut down speech, thought, erase history, hide the truth, change laws, and literally destroy societies. They do it by forming committees, lobbying, threats, and screaming the loudest. If everybody ignores them, then they win while the rest of us lose. I will try to limit my objections, but will correct SIDA and others when they stray from the truth. I just didn’t want the elderly to develop a false sense of security by listening to people like SIDA, to come away thinking that if they wear a mask they’re not going to get the virus. If they are vulnerable (have other ailments), they should really be staying out of crowded… Read more »

And there you go again with the derogatory statements. Have at it. It affects me not. Just makes you sound like you’re about ready to snap.

Shut It Down Already (original)

You ran out of argument a long time ago. LOL.

Worst Face For Math

If you had any concern for the vulnerable and elderly you’d wear a mask. You seem to be confused: masks protect other people in case you are an asymptomatic carrier, which you wouldn’t know without a test.

Also Influenza is not COVID-19.

backwardsevolution

COVID-19 is a virus. Influenza is a virus.

I’m not confused at all. So you’re asymptomatic, you don’t know you’re sick. But you’re still walking around and breathing, aren’t you? Each time you exhaled, you would be expelling the virus. The virus (the smallest particles) would go right through your mask and into the surrounding air. If someone vulnerable is nearby or happens to be following behind you, even at six feet, and they inhale – voila!

Shut It Down Already (original)

False. Some of the virus would not make it through the mask, because many of the droplets would not, and that reduces the probability of transmission. Multiply that across an entire population and the impact is dramatic. And this is exactly the position of the CDC.

Even Trump is close to understanding this. Yet here you are.

Like I said, you don’t know your hat from a virus.

Re face masks: masks DO NOT prevent the spread of viruses. Even the N95 masks state right on the package that they DO NOT stop the spread of viruses. Here’s the CDC with their findings: “In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks.” AND: “Our systematic review found no significant effect of face masks on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza.” https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/5/19-0994_article?fbclid=IwAR2V1hPqN0WKb2kXVExP_1UE9ARvru6mtPZvZN0w1jx0S3l3fXLhxMP_bXs People working with infectious diseases are all suited up in special moon suits, they breathe outside, pressurized air, and they go through many sets of doors and face decontamination before they ever leave the office. Healthcare workers are protecting themselves, hence the extreme PPE.

Consumer-grade face masks don’t protect the wearer; they reduce the rate of transmission across the population on average. If everybody wears one then the spread of the virus is massively slowed.

You’d have to be a fucking idiot to not understand the difference, or otherwise incredibly dishonest to try and confuse the two scenarios.

Every country which mandated wearing of masks early had a better outcome than those that didn’t.

Just stop.

backwardsevolution

If people are sneezing and coughing (sick), they shouldn’t be going out. If they are not sick, but feel a sneeze or a cough coming on, they should sneeze into their sleeve or cover their mouth when they cough.

Other than that, go about your business, but just realize that no mask is going to stop a virus. We’ve all seen our breath on a very cold day, and this is what’s happening every time we breathe. As the CDC says, face masks don’t stop viruses. Period.

I’m no idiot, and I’m certainly not dishonest.

Adios.

Shut It Down Already (original)

You’re both. And of course sick people should be staying at home. But we know that many people who test positive are asymptomatic. They can infect others. This is exactly why the CDC recommends everybody over the age of 2 wear a face mask when in public. Don’t believe me? Check their fucking website, which says: “Cloth face coverings are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the cloth face covering coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice. This is called source control. This recommendation is based on what we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, paired with emerging evidence from clinical and laboratory studies that shows cloth face coverings reduce the spray of… Read more »

backwardsevolution

And yet the link I provided you right from the CDC says otherwise. Who do you trust these days!

Your quote above says “reduce the spray of droplets”. Yes, a mask would catch larger droplets, say from a sneeze, but it does NOT capture the hundreds of thousands or potentially millions of micro-sized particles from escaping. And these minute particles can linger for hours in the air.

Air-conditioned buildings (or planes) are probably not great places to hang around in. Too much recirculated air.

Why the filthy mouth and the name calling? This is science, isn’t it? Shouldn’t science be about the truth?

I mean, you could duct tape your whole head I guess, but then you couldn’t breathe, and no one here would like that.

Shut It Down Already (original)

My quote is from the CDC. It’s their latest recommendations. The study you cited was from a university in Hong Kong. And what’s air conditioning got to do with it? I already said that consumer masks are to protect others from respiratory droplets, they’re not for protecting the wearer. And this is a numbers game – any reduction on the micro scale can have a dramatic impact on the macro. Nobody is saying that masks stop all transmission on the micro scale, so enough with the strawman already. And why the name calling? Because you’re spreading dangerous misinformation and refusing to concede that you’re part of the fucking problem. When a relative of yours dies you and your stubbornness can shoulder some of the responsibility. Wear a fucking mask, dipshit, and don’t bother regurgitating any more “arguments” you’re copying from… Read more »

“ And yet the link I provided you right from the CDC says otherwise. Who do you trust these days!”

I think your disagreement comes from a simple misunderstanding. You have mistakenly linked to a comment about the transmission of influenza not COVID-19.

The growing scientific consensus Is that COVID-19 is airborne, which is why masks that minimize air spread from asymptomatic infections do help and why they are widely recommended.

This one is not the flu, it’s a lot trickier.

backwardsevolution

Influenza is airborne too, just like Covid. Both are spread by droplets, especially the micro-sized droplets that no mask is going to stop.

There’s nothing trickier about Covid.

“There was a false study done, where they gave it to very sick people, extremely sick people, people that were ready to die”

That’s irresponsible misinformation.

LOL.

backwardsevolution

SIDA – That VA study was discredited. Those people were already seriously ill when they were given hydroxychloroquine. That’s too late. They probably had vents shoved down their throats too.

Hydroxychloroquine works when it is given early, as an anti-viral. After that you need other medications.

“But regardless science is about following the evidence where it leads – not picking a side early on and shouting as loudly as you can…”

Gee, that sounds like someone we know – you! Try to keep up.

Shut It Down Already (original)

Duh. I was using Trump’s opinion of the study to demonstrate that he was more than just “optimistic”.

And, for the record, I don’t care whether or not the drug is eventually found to be effective. My position from day one has been that Trump was being irresponsible by touting an unproven treatment. A positive trial outcome will not and cannot change that. My “side” is that of scientific discovery and honesty.

backwardsevolution

But it’s not “unproven”. That’s the thing. Trump wasn’t advocating taking an Aspirin or some Tylenol to halt the virus. He didn’t tell people to do headstands while holding their breath and twirling their rosary beads.

Why do you think he mentioned hydroxychloroquine? Trump is a billionaire, could probably advise you on how to build a hotel, but I doubt very much whether he came up with hydroxychloroquine on his own. Could it be that he had been advised by doctors (including his own personal doctor) who WERE using it and getting good results?

Your “side is that of scientific discovery and honesty”? Oh, please. You wouldn’t know what these look like.

Shut It Down Already (original)

It’s clinically unproven. That’s all that matters. Ask the FDA, CDC, or NIH if you don’t believe me.

And why would he mention it? Because he failed to control the pandemic early on (too busy playing golf, denying the problem and holding vanity rallies) and was looking for a magic wand to wave. But he’s too stubborn to change his position on wearing a mask, which would likely save way more lives than any miracle cure.

What a miserable failure he is.
