A relative is looking at renting in Ginger Living, and maybe buying there someday. I'd appreciate any info on the building and its occupants. Also what rent would be appropriate for a large one bedroom with a parking spot?

I know its not really my place to comment on other people lifestyle choices, so I hope you're not offended.. buy WHY would someone want to live down there? You're familiar with the neighborhood right? Thats a few blocks from Main and Hastings and the open air drug market extends up main to that location.
I guess I'm just confused why someone would choose to live in a location where they have to step over sleeping homeless on their way out their front door then dodge panhandlers, tweakers, the mentally ill and thieves if they choose to walk anywhere in the neighborhood?
I moved to Vancouver in the mid nineties and that area was worse than I'd seen in many US cities which suprised me. There was talk of improvements and how the neighborhood would change for the better... it's gotten worse since then.
Sorry for the rant, I guess some people just like to live amongst more excitement than I do.

In recent months, we've seen the rental prices for 1 bedrooms at the Ginger ranging from $1250-1600/month. While the neighborhood is "up-and-coming", as with anything, might not be for everyone. But, for those who want a downtown location in a new building and can tolerate a few pan-handlers, this is certainly a viable option.
