   I like the labels posts with -10 and -20 ratings get!

   The site is slow compared to most other blogs/forums. Any way to speed it up?

   Can you clarify what you mean by slow? Is it slow to load every page, the comments or the forum specifically? I haven't noticed it being terribly slow lately, but I'll try to make it more efficient when I get a chance. Mostly we get more visitors than we used to and then puts more demands on the server. Thanks for the feedback, I'll see what I can do.

   Overall the site is slow, yet it is most noticeable on individual posts. The home page and forums seem ok, so I assume it is the comments that show for individual posts that slow it down.

   Yeah, it looks like once the comments pile up the site really starts to bog down. I've changed to paged comments (50 per page) and that seems to help. I've set it to start with the first 50 comments by default with the option to view all comments in reverse order. Any opinions on this setup?

   Yep, the reply plugin doesn't seem to be working with the paged comments. I need to spend a bit more time tracking that down when I get a chance, but in the meantime it doesn't seem to be slowing down conversation.

   Pope, what's with the reverse post order? I find it really annoying to read down to up.

   I can see people liking it this way (whatever floats your boat), but can it at least be an option?

   I accidentally set EVERYTHING to reverse order, I've changed that now. Here's how it currently works, feedback is welcome:

   Clicking the STORY TITLE now shows a single page with all comments starting with the first, while clicking the Orange 'number of comments' box to the right of that loads just the last page of comment in reverse order.

   So if you want to read all comments with one click, hit the story title. If you've read some and just want to catch up on the most recent, click the orange 'number of comments' box.

    Hi Pope,
    I look at the site a lot from my Blackberry, but since Forum box has been added, it floats across the screen (rather than staying on the left hand side of screen), making it impossible to read the blog and comments. Is there a way to make the Forum Box static when viewing from a bb?

    Hey Londonernow,

    Here's what I do. When you are zoomed in on the comments screen and the forum box wipes out your screen, just click on the 'berry button' and choose 'column view'. Then you will see the comments free and clear!

    What kind of blackberry are you guys using? I have a plugin that presents a mobile version of the site to iPhones that is supposed to work with the BB storm. If you have a different model I can try adding extra custom user agents to see if that works. Here's the list of available user agents I have:

    I'm bold 9000. Still have the floating forum box when I zoom in. I choose 'column view' to get around it.

    Damn you Pope. I'm addicted to your site as I visit it each morning before starting work and find myself visiting throughout the day. That was a praise I guess.

    Seriously though, this site is a great place for people to use logic and reason to discuss Van RE matters unlike speaking to all the brain-washed lemmings that walk/work among us. (supposedly smart-professionals included)

    You're special Jesse, just like all the other registered users here

    Anonymous users get +/-1 voting, registered users get +/-2.

    The thinking behind this is that registered users tend to contribute more to the site over the long term so they better reflect the personality of the site. I like giving someone who's just visiting once the ability to vote comments up or down, but their input is counted less than someone who goes through the trouble of registering a user account and posts comments from a consistent point of view (unlike some of the trolls that post under multiple names).

    VHB: I tried adding the Bold 9000 user agent setting, but it doesn't sound like it works. As long as you're still able to browse the site on your blackberry I won't worry too much about it at this point.
